Group Chats

Create and manage group conversations. Add or remove members, change group settings, and start group voice or video calls.

Group Chats

Group chats let you converse with multiple team members in a single conversation. Create groups for projects, teams, or topics—then manage members, settings, and start group calls.

Creating a Group

Open compose — Click the compose button (pencil icon) in the Chat interface.

Choose "New Group" — Select the New Group option instead of a single contact.

Add members — Select the team members you want in the group. You can add multiple people.

Set group name and description — Give the group a name (required). Add an optional description to explain the group's purpose.

Create — Confirm to create the group. All members are added and can start chatting.

Managing Groups

Add or Remove Members

  • Add — Open group settings and add new members. They'll see the full conversation history from when they join.
  • Remove — Open group settings and remove members. Removed members lose access to the group.

Change Group Details

You can update:

  • Group name — Rename the group at any time
  • Group avatar — Set or change the group's profile image
  • Description — Update the optional description

Group admins have full control over these settings.

Leave a Group

If you no longer need to be in a group, you can leave it. Open group settings and choose "Leave group." You will no longer receive messages or see the conversation. The group continues for remaining members.

Group Calls

Start a voice or video call with all group members:

  • Voice call — Click the phone icon in the group chat header to start an audio call. All members can join.
  • Video call — Click the camera icon to start a video call. All members can join with audio and video.

Group calls use WebRTC and work in the browser. Mute/unmute your mic, toggle your camera, or end the call using the on-screen controls.

See Audio and Video Calls for more on call controls.

Group Admin

If you created the group or have admin rights, you can:

  • Add and remove members
  • Change the group name, avatar, and description
  • Manage group settings

Non-admin members can typically view group info and leave the group, but cannot change settings or membership.
