Search and Manage Conversations
Search messages across conversations. Mute notifications, clear history, delete conversations. Unread badges in sidebar.
Search and Manage Conversations
Find messages quickly and keep your chat list organized with search and conversation management tools.
Searching Messages
Use the search bar to find messages across all your conversations.
- Click in the search field (usually at the top of the Chat sidebar or in the header).
- Enter keywords, names, or phrases.
- Results show matching messages from your conversations. Click a result to open that conversation and jump to the message.
Search works across:
- Direct messages
- Group chats
- Message text and often metadata (e.g., sender, date)
Search scope may vary by deployment. Some configurations search only your visible conversations.
Managing Conversations
Right-Click or Menu Options
Right-click a conversation (or use its menu) to access options such as:
| Option | Description |
|---|---|
| Mute notifications | Stop desktop and sound alerts for this conversation. You still receive messages but without notifications. |
| Clear chat history | Remove messages from your view. The conversation remains, but the history is cleared. |
| Delete conversation | Remove the conversation from your list. Behavior may vary—some setups allow recovery; others do not. |
Clearing or deleting a conversation may not remove it for other participants. Check your organization's retention policies.
Mute Notifications
When you mute a conversation:
- You no longer get desktop or sound notifications for new messages
- The conversation stays in your list
- Unread count still updates
- You can unmute anytime via the same menu
Useful for busy groups or conversations you want to read later without alerts.
Clear Chat History
Clear chat history removes the visible message history for that conversation on your side. The chat stays in your list, and new messages will appear. Use this to declutter without deleting the conversation.
Delete Conversation
Delete conversation removes the chat from your conversation list. Depending on your setup, this may be reversible or permanent. Deleted conversations typically don’t appear in search.
Unread Badges
The Chat sidebar shows unread badges (e.g., a number) next to conversations with new messages you haven’t read. This helps you prioritize which chats need attention.
Badges usually clear when you open and read the conversation, or when you mark it as read.
