Virtual Backgrounds
Use virtual backgrounds in video meetings. Choose from blur, preset images, or upload your own custom background.
Virtual Backgrounds
Virtual backgrounds let you replace or blur your real background during video meetings. This is useful for maintaining privacy, presenting a professional appearance, or simply having fun with custom images.
Background Options
CrystalQore offers three categories of virtual backgrounds:
None
No background effect applied. Your camera shows your actual surroundings as-is.
Background Blur
Blurs your real background while keeping you in sharp focus. A good default when you want privacy without selecting a specific image.
Preset Images
Choose from a library of built-in background images:
| Background | Description |
|---|---|
| Office | Professional office environment |
| Library | Bookshelves and reading room |
| City | Urban skyline or cityscape |
| Nature | Outdoor landscape or garden |
| Abstract | Colorful abstract design |
| Studio | Clean, minimal studio backdrop |
Custom Upload
Upload your own images as virtual backgrounds:
- Supported formats: JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF
- Recommended resolution: 1920x1080 or higher for best results
- Images are stored locally and persist across sessions
Setting a Virtual Background
Open background settings — Before or during a meeting, click the background button or access it from your video settings.
Browse options — Scroll through None, Blur, preset images, and your uploaded images.
Select a background — Click to apply. The preview shows how it looks with your camera.
Join or continue the meeting — The background applies immediately.
Uploading a Custom Background
- In the background selector, click the upload button (typically a "+" icon)
- Select an image file from your device
- The image is added to your custom backgrounds list
- Click it to apply as your active background
Removing a Custom Background
- Hover over a custom-uploaded background image
- Click the remove (X) button
- The image is deleted from your library
Preset backgrounds cannot be removed.
Tips
- Use good lighting — Virtual backgrounds work best with even, front-facing lighting
- Avoid busy clothing — Patterns similar to your background may cause visual artifacts
- Simple backgrounds work best — Solid colors or simple scenes produce cleaner edges
- Test before important meetings — Preview your background before joining a call with clients or leadership
- Background blur is always safe — When in doubt, blur is professional and works in any lighting condition
Virtual background processing runs in your browser. On lower-powered devices, using a background may reduce frame rate. If you experience performance issues, switch to Background Blur or None.
